EADS Astrium is owned 100% by EADS, the
European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company, employs 7200 persons in
France, Germany, United Kingdom and Spain.
This European Satellite Company is now totally focused on its satellite
business activities, covering civil and military telecommunications and
Earth observation,
science and navigation programmes, avionics and
equipments.
EADS Astrium has accumulated an experience of more than 25 years
covering all domains of satellite telecommunication systems in all Space
applications:
Earth Observation, Science, Telecommunication, Navigation
and Transport.
Ground infrastructures developed include: Control and
Mission Centres,
Test benches and Simulators, Operations tools,
Information Systems,
TT&C and data receiving stations, turnkey Satellite
communications systems
and networks between distant facilities using
terrestrial or satellite links,
data transmission systems via VSAT's and
related hardware.
In the field of satellite telecommunication
infrastructures EADS Astrium is well known as a system integrator and a
major satellite prime contractor.
Through multiple projects, EADS Astrium has acquired a wide range of
skills
in the area of networks, encompassing the definition of
requirements,
the definition of architectures and protocols, performance
simulations, up to the integration and installation.
EADS Astrium is
also jointly developing with Alcatel a new generation of satellite
platform product that will further increase the capacity of the
satellites:
allowing the delivery of more bandwidth at a cheaper price
to the end-user.
This development is thus in line with the EADS Astrium
strategy
aimed at developing newservices based
on satellite infrastructures.
With the launch of the European Satellite Navigation programme of
Galileo, Astrium has established itself further in the field of design
and development of navigation satellite systems, including local
elements.
Astrium’s specific experience in the field of navigation is
stemming
especially from the following projects:
- GNSS-2 Comparative System Study (1999)
- Gala Study (2000)
- GalileoSat Study Phase B1 (2000)
- Gaflex (2001)
- Galileo Phase B2 Study (2001/2002)
- Galilei Programme (2001 – 2003)
- Galileo System Test Bed – Ground Segment, GSTB-V1 (2002 – 2004)
In these and other studies, Astrium was responsible and has built up
considerable know-how in the fields of architecture definition,
integrity,
signal design, mission and system requirements definition.
Relevant expertise could also be gained with respect to complementary
systems,
local elements architecture, local based services definition,
signal engineering
and frequency co-ordination, but also in
non-technical fields
such as analysis of organisational models and legal
assessment of funding options.
EADS Astrium closely related background
is:
- Prime contractor for over 60 communications satellites, including
latest Inmarsat satellites;
- Co-prime with Alcatel of the @bus programme (new generation
of
satellite platform product);
- Participation to Natacha program (FP5);
- Expertise in end-to-end satellite communication analysis
- A key player in the European satellite navigation system Galileo |
