About 15,000 employees are working in AIRBUS-F (46,000 for all AIRBUS in Europe). The turnover for 2002 amounts to round Euro 4.1 billion and the “résultat d’exploitation” (more or less equivalent to EBIT) to round Euro 0.5 billion. Regarding research activities the self-funding R&D amounts in 2002 to round Euros 0.8 billion. AIRBUS-F Engineering is operated in one major design office in Toulouse. AIRBUS-F Manufacturing is structured into manufacturing units where Airbus aircraft are designed, built, assembled and tested. These units have specific skills and expertise : - Méaulte : cockpit and forward fuselage shells, doors - Nantes : keel beams, winglets, landing gear doors, assembly of centre wingbox - Saint-Nazaire : fuselage shells, sheet metal parts, pipes and ducts, assembly of cockpit and forward fuselage section Toulouse : engine pylons, electrical harnesses, cockpit furnishing, final assembly and cabin interior installation. The Design Office of AIRBUS-France will contribute in ANASTASIA as leader in the Communication/Navigation/Surveillance needs capture and in defining Navigation and Cockpit Communications architectures including Satellite Based technologies. Indeed, AIRBUS-France is responsible of integring navigation and cockpit communications functions on current AIRBUS-Fleet and has already competences in satellite technologies by GPS primary function certification in navigation and by certification of SATCOM in datalink use. |
