THE
UNIVERSITY OF VIGO, Spain, (UVIGO) is an institution devoted to higher
education in a number of disciplines including arts and sciences as well
as engineering: civil and telecommunications engineering.
The UVIGO research group participating in this proposal, belongs to the
Signal Theory and Communications Department (TSC). It carries out its
academic activities at the Telecommunications Engineering school (ETSET).
The group is in charge of the following subjects: "Radiocommunication
systems" and "Mobile communications".
The main research topics of the group are in the characterization of
radio propagation channels both to fixed and mobile terminals, for
navigation and communications applications. The frequency bands of
interest range from UHF to Ka- and V-Band. The groups has also carried
out work in systems and network planning studies.
The group has been involved in a number of European Space Agency, ESTEC/ESA
projects dealing with propagation and systems studies related to land
mobile satellite (LMSS), broadband fixed communications systems as well
as in navigation projects (GNSS2, GALILEO).
The group has also been involved in a number of projects funded by the
regional and national governments as well as by mobile operators. At
international level, the group has participated in European
collaborative projects like COST 255 (Radiowave propagation modeling for
new SatCom services at Ku-Band and above) and COST 280 (Propagation
Impairment Mitigation for Millimeter Wave Radio Systems) and currently
participates in the newly started EU Network of Excellence SatNex
(Satellite Communications Network of Excellence).
At standardization level, the group actively participates in ITU-R Study
Group 3 activities dealing with the development of propagation related
recommendations. |
